Out of town for the week of April 26th

My travel journal for the curious.

[Day 1 - Saturday - 24-Apr-2004]

- Left at 6:30Am (after stopping at Weigels for air in tires and 1 juice, 2 8oz. Dr. Peppers and an apple.
- Lunch was from Subway – they had their Diet Coke mixed up with regular coke (Yuck!)
(Ate at next rest stop (in WV)
- I81 under construction in PA (Normal), I84/PA speed bumps were a pain.
- Dinner was a McD’s QP w/cheese meal in PA when I stopped for gas.
- Took wrong exit off of I84/NY for New Paltz (Took Rt. 208 (Exit 5) to New Paltz thru Walden, Walkill… extra 20 miles/30 minutes to trip)
-Arrived at Chris’ in N.P. @ 7:10PM

Total mileage for the day: 770
Time (including stops): 12.5 hours

[Day 2 - Sunday - 25-Apr-2004]

- Left approx. 6AM before Chris got up. Stopped for coffee&bagel in N.P and then topped off gas before heading north on I87.
-I87 to I90 –> across Hudson. Stayed on I90 until Exit 11A (I495 exit) (I290 under construction)
Took 495 up to I93
- I93/Tilton Exit for BJ’s (Gas and etc.) and side marker light bulbs for car. (Almost missed it because I was behind an E39 M5 right before it and almost got stuck in left lane)
- I93 Ashland exit to Airport Road to 175 to Seven Pines to pick up T.
- Down 175 to Rt. 3 so T could pick up something from a friend at the ‘Ice Cream Campground’ in Holderness

- I89 until Exit 17 north of Burlington for Lake Champlain Ferry.
- Next year T will be too old for child rate on ferry ($4.25 for adult)
- Stopped in Malone/Rt11 for dinner at KFC – first ‘bad’ weather of trip – low 40′s and rain.
- Rt 11B to Potsdam, –> Rt 11 thru Canton to Gouverneur.
-> Gouverneur Rt 11 to Rt 58 to Mom’s – 7PM (approx)

Total Miles: 625
Total Time: 13 hours

[Day 3 - Monday - 26-Apr-2004]

Hung out. T went shopping in afternoon w/Mom while I fixed alarm on my car. It now works though I turned off the on/off ‘chirp’ – it uses the horn and was a bit loud.
After dinner T watched 3 episodes of ‘Haunted’ Places on the Travel channel and then we watched HHGTTG (all 6 episodes) – late night.

[Day 4 - Tuesday - 27-Apr-2004]

Got up late-ish. T spent a large part of day (including lunch) with Teresa.
Took T & Dillon to see Scooby-Doo 2 in Watertown (Dinner at a Bob Evans (T – French toast Dillon – burger, Me – chicken veggie dish, T had dessert), wandered around mall for a few minutes, movie, then stopped at Dunkin Donuts. Took D home.

Total Miles: 92
Total Time: 5 hours

As far as the movie goes. It was good if you are a Scooby Doo fan (or you aren’t a teenager yet.) Matthew Lillard did his usual ‘nuanced’ Shaggy interpretation; Freddy Prinze, Jr. did his usual light weight acting bit; Linda Cardelini did the cute/sexy geek thing again; Sarah Michelle Gellar did a cute Daphne with some Buffy action moves (again). But most of the movie was CGI – Scooby and the monsters so they didn’t do much acting. I can’t see them making a third movie.

T insisted on watching TR-CofL though she barely stayed awake thru it. And then off to bed.

[Day 5 - Wednesday - 28-Apr-2004]

Early morning snow – it was gone by 10AM.

[Day 6 - Thursday - 29-Apr-2004]
[Day 7 - Friday - 30-Apr-2004]
[Day 8 - Saturday - 01-May-2004]

Return trip (Day 1) -> Gouverneur, NY to NH to New Paltz -

[Day 9 - Sunday - 02-May-2004]

Return trip (Day 2) -> New Paltz to Knoxville -> Got in at 9:40PM…1400 miles in 2 days. I’ll update the stuff from Day 5 on later…

Beverages

Do you drink your root beer warm or cold? It’s a matter of taste. Too cold and all you get is the sugary carbonation. Warm(er) and you can actual taste the root beer flavor. I wonder what the perfect root beer serving temperature is?

Liquids

Cocoa… or at least the instant stuff… letting it get cold? Not of the good. And reheating it doesn’t help much…

Surprise in product packaging… there’s a new 7-Up flavor… too bad that isn’t labelled too clearly on the upside down label. Imagine my surprise when I got it home and found out the upside down label wasn’t just a marketing ploy… and somewhere in small print it mentions “caffeine” and “fruit flavors” and of course, you find out it is a different color when you pour it into a glass…

It’s not bad but there’s nothing special about it…

Spring in TN

The smell of cut grass and tar… yeah! Only a week into April and it already feels like NH in June. Haven’t quite gotten used to it yet…

Tap, tap, tap

Things are kind of slow on the fanfic front. I’ve taken my obligatory week off between fic writing/posting… now on with the fic… or should I do my taxes first… hmmm.

Ouch!

Only one of my fics on Twisting the Hellmouth survived the move to their new server. Not sure what happened but I just spent a couple hours putting the missing and new ones back up there. Phew. Hope it doesn’t happen again.
