Standing On Boxes

The next part of my TtH100 entry is well under way (but unfinished), and I had an idea for a short ficlet (Pat Morita died last week… and Hilary Swank did one of those “Karate Kid” movies with him… and she was also in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie (one of Buffy’s groupies/friends) which sparked an idea… but I’m going to have to find a copy of that movie if I want to actually finish the ficlet I started… I don’t remember enough details)

I’ve also done some more work on “The Two” revisions prior to writing the next part…

For those playing the home game… and didn’t notice I was out of town…

My Thanksgiving trip this year was 5 days driving, 4 days with family.

Roughly speaking :

1. Nov 19th 12:50pm –> 8PM [7 hrs] [468.2 miles] (odometer start :141,465)
2. Nov 20th 8AM –> 4:30PM [8.5 hrs] [546.4 miles]
3. Nov 21st 3PM-9PM [6 hrs] [275 miles]
4. Nov 26th 8:15AM –> 2:45PM [6.5 hrs] [271.8 miles]
5. Nov 26th 2:45PM –> 12:30AM [10.25 hrs] [517 miles]
6. Nov 27th 8:45AM –> 4:20PM [7.5 hrs] [528 miles] (odometer end :144,206)

For approximately 46 hours of driving. and 2741 miles.

Of course, no real details… the gap on the 21st was me doing things in NH for the morning until I picked up the T and we hit the road.

And yes, the 26th wasn’t originally a bad idea… I ‘ve done that much driving in one day before… (but the roads weren’t very good for the start of the second half of it… and I was exhausted by the end of it… I was lucky I found the motel (And yes, they DID leave the light on for me ))

And… don’t bother trying to figure out my average speed per day… some days I would take long breaks… others… almost none…

Why yes, I AM tired…

It has been pointed out to me that I really need to work on my dialogue in my fics… punctuation and using ‘said’ and similar verbs to indicate someone said something.
(I’m sure there’s a term in grammar for it but I don’t have the time right now to go dig up one of my college English grammar books. (I should really be packing my car for the annual Thanksgiving week trip to NH/NY))

Certainly something to work on… not sure how many of my older fics I’ll go back and check for such “grammar crimes”… or where to paste the large note to remind myself…

And I should probably cut back on the ellipsis… since I’m probably using them incorrectly (if a dictionary is to be believed) — Not that anyone has noticed how often I use them and commented on it..

I just haven’t put anything up here in weeks… just stuff on my LiveJournal page for TtH (6 down, 94 to go – yikes!)

I’m hoping for a few uninterrupted days of fic-ness over the Thanksgiving break… but we’ll see.

I’ve only written the beginning of a short ficlet for the TtH100 since I returned from my NH trip… I had an idea but it seems to have stalled. I’ve just been too busy thinking about work things all week…

The return trip was approximately 1,006.7 miles (with assorted reasons for the differences in miles between the trip out and back)

A long trip… 8.5 hours last night/yesterday afternoon, and 6 3/4 hours today… and not even close to enough stops along the way…

Twenty years ago I would have driven the whole thing in one (long) day… not any more… just over half of it yesterday… and the rest this morning…

So.. roughly speaking… including the moving of stuff into storage and a side trip or two… I just put 2,296.7 miles on my car in 5 days… I’m tired “;->”

And approx. $250 on gas, $100 on food, $200 on hotels. About what I figured it would cost. (I keep track for my own use… but I haven’t gone thru my receipts yet… so I could be off by a little bit… this is all from my travel notes…)

And I get to do it again in 2 weeks for Thanksgiving…except it’ll be closer to 3,000 miles spread out over 9 days with the majority of milage on either end… with a big break and turkey in the middle…

I’m not familiar with the original cartoon… but the trailer for the new movie looks interesting… we’ll see what happens.

I might actually go see it.

I just put 1,014 miles on my car (3 1/4 tanks of gas, 18 hours of driving over two days)…

And in the morning I get to go over to the old house and go thru some stuff and decide what to keep, and put in storage or throw out… and I have to do it all tomorrow so I can head home Saturday…

I’m really not looking forward to it… even though most of my stuff is already in boxes (It’s the stuff I wanted to keep but didn’t want to take to TN with me two years ago…)

Storage is going to cost $45/month — (or so I was told a couple weeks ago… we’ll see what happens when I actual show up at the self-storage place) — with the house being sold… I can actually afford it for a year or two until I can actually deal with the junk (Keep or eBay it? That is the question)
