Just over there
Okay… the most recent version of Part 3 of “Lady of A” is now up. It’s done enough to be considered a First Draft — finally.
It’s heavy on the background material… but now that that is done… the story can move forward. I hope.
I think I’ll let it germinate for a day or two and revisit it (Some parts I’m happy with — some not so much) before declaring it postable at the usual spots.

Today, for the first time ever — I bought something at a BMW dealer. No, not a car — though that new M5 they have sitting in their showroom was very enticing (If I ever win the lottery). Had to buy some power steering fluid for the red buggy (so it doesn’t go empty before i can get a leak fixed next week.)
Microsoft released another Dashboard update at the end of November. It bricked a few Xbox systems (Since all of the evidence is anecdotal (and angry) and Microsoft isn’t saying anything… ) there was no way to tell if my 360 was at risk. The update apparently increases the stress on the GPU in an effort to get 1080p working correctly. Or so everyone believes.
But an XBox 360 is halfway to useless without XBox Live… so I finally installed the update. No problems so far but I don’t exactly stress-test the gadget whenever I use it.
We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks…
Oh yeah… at some time in the past 2 weeks there was an update to the XBox emulator for the 360. The one XBox game I picked up (The “XBox only” Buffy the Vampire Slayer game) a couple weeks ago cheap now seems to work though the controls aren’t quite the same…. spent a little while playing it. Not bad but I think it has a few too many cut scenes (canned video to bridge the action and make it feel like there is an actual story)
Okay… ‘Najica’… three episodes in… if you ignore the gratuitous ‘fanservice’ the story is actually amusing… like the brief review I referenced earlier says.
Poor Najica (the main character) gets stuck with a female android (Lila) who looks like a teenager (She’s something called a Humaritt? Seems to be some kind of artificial intelligence based creature (AI)) that is learning how to act human. She’s very literal.
Lots of humour results from their interaction.
Lila apparently was supposed to be the only “Humaritt’ but a new one seems to show up in each mission Najica and Lila go on… so far… they seem to have to retrieve them…
New receiver to replace the dying one… a Pioneer of all things…
It has an interesting setup menu…. it’s a bit odd because the the four digital audio inputs have to be matched up to 3 component video inputs… and of course the hardcoded names don’t quite fit… the match-up between audio and video isn’t exact.
My DVR/cable box has a digital coax output but no video (I use HDMI which this reciever doesn’t support) so I have that set so it uses one of the audio inputs but no video.
My DVD player also uses HDMI and the other digital coax input – it got the CD label (which does audio and no video of course)
(I’m just using the receiver for surround sound… for the cable box and DVD player)
My PS2 gets the TV component in and digital optical in.
My Xbox got the DVD component in and the DVD optical audio in.
My DVD recorder gets the 3rd component input but only does analog audio out… I haven’t quite figured out how to set it up to record yet. Maybe tomorrow?
On my old receiver I had one optical input that I swapped between the Xbox and PS2
I was curious about ‘Najica’… Best Buy has had a boxed set for a while… but not enough to buy the whole thing…
The used book store had the first DVD in the set today… so I picked it up… after watching the first episode…
Can’t see myself getting the rest….
It isn’t the story/storytelling/animation… well… okay… it IS the animation style… the director/animator seems to be obsessed with women with overly short dresses/skirts — to the point that the camera seems to focus on them… a little too much for my taste…
(The anime term is ‘panty shot’ – and this series seems to be full of them.)
