I have a handful of DVD’s in my possession that I bring out and watch when I’m searching for a mood. The movies aren’t specifically works of art but they have parts where the music and camera work really sets a mood.
- The “Thomas Crown Affair” remake (Pierce Brosnan/Renee Russo) has at least three scenes that work for me like that — the two robbery scenes and the sailboat and glider scenes. Unfortunately, there are too many scenes that don’t work at that level. The tango scene (very blah compared to the one in “Mr and Mrs Smith”) and the gratuitous sex scene are prime examples. (I’ve never watched the original Steve McQueen version all the way through so I can’t compare it.) Music by Bill Conti.
- The opening scene for “The Replacement Killers” is another.
- There are a couple scenes in “The Avengers” movie that are all mood.
- Almost any Hayao Miyazaki film has a lot of mood pieces (I just/finally watched his “Nausica… of the Valley of Wind” tonight — which got me on this mood kick.)
- Another film I watched tonight “My Name is Nobody” is a very music/mood driven film (Not surprisingly, it was written by Sergio Leone)
If it wasn’t so late… I would add more…

Part 2 of my short KP is finally starting to come together. The second scene still has a large chunk to go but the parts are mostly there. And then I can move on to the exciting stuff.

Rush’s 30th Anniversary Tour (back in 2005) is on INHD right now…
I can’t believe it was 20 years ago that I saw them in concert (I was in college in NY (state) at the time and a bunch of us went when they came to the local venue.)
The requisite very long drum solo (of course) – though it doesn’t feel so long when you are experiencing it live.
Boy… they look “old” but still sound good. Much better live than recorded – if you like guitars and drums that sound like actual music – with words even. Of course, I don’t look like I did 20 years ago either (I’ve gotten wider but not taller)
I think I first heard them back in ’85. (there was a time during the 90′s where I didn’t buy any music for any of my favorite artists… so I don’t have a complete collection of their albums – mostly the early stuff.
Got hooked on Marillion, Led Zeppelin, and others around the same time (I grew up mostly on my parent’s music – mostly folk music (my mother’s stuff) and country (my father was a Johnny Cash fan) and stuff like the Beatles that was considered “safe” in middle-class America when I was growing up.

As occasionally happens in one of my stories, I’m keeping to my original intent/outline but a few added events/things have jumped in when I hadn’t planned on it. A character I hadn’t planned on using “insisted” on joining the party. It’ll help with the character dynamic but we’ll see how well that works out.
I also might split it up into smaller chunks (Part 2 is too long). And I need to provide a link to the “Shego episode” I wrote for that round-robin. Hmm…

To start writing a Kim Possible/BtVS crossover?
(Not sure what I’ve written so far actually works.)
And it’s getting kind of “rambly” — things aren’t going exactly where I’d planned.

Hmmm… picked up a copy of the first volume in the Dark Horse translation of the manga. Kind of different. And not just because the steering wheels are all on the wrong side (it takes place in Chicago).
What exactly was “Minnie” May’s previous occupation? (The Wikipedia has a rather extensive entry on this series… which confirms my suspicions – this is not a manga for kids… even with some things ‘greyed out’)

(Just watched “So The Drama” – the ‘final’ episode/movie of “Kim Possible” season 3. Season 4 starts tonight…)
Okay… after 60+ episodes of just being friends… KP and Ron Stoppable?
Sorry… but Kim and Ron have the chemistry of a wet sock. There’s more energy in the fights between KP and Shego. Buffy and Xander had loads more chemistry (and most of that was wishful thinking on Xander’s side.). Heck, Kim and Bonnie had more chemistry.
And, there’s the fact that Ron didn’t seem to be interested in her until this episode.
Okay… it was the last minute of the movie/episode. So who knows what happened afterward… and they never expected the show to be continued… so they ended on an up Disney kind of ending…
But still… pairing up Ron and Kim? Kind of a cheat…
And after 4 episodes in Season 4? Kim spends most of each episode annoyed at Ron’s juvenile antics though they “make up” (though I don’t think they even kiss) by the end of each episode. I can’t see this lasting for another 18 episodes.
Have to admit… the Tweebs add an extra dimension now…
(And much more observant sources than I have noticed that the first four episodes shown tonight are not actually the first four Season 4 episodes chronologically. The main issue being — what’s the deal with the car? How/When did Kim get it?)

I’m not really watching the Super Bowl but I do have it on with no sound (I’ve got NPR on). All that pre-game nonsense was a bit disturbing. And all the fancy graphics and such are distracting… I think I’ll leave NPR on….
So… 14 seconds into the first quarter… and one team has already scored? Oops. That was totally unexpected.
It’s raining? Are they allowed to play the Super Bowl in the rain? I thought they had covered stadiums now-a-days. (I guess they can’t delay the game… too much money involved…). Good thing they aren’t somewhere up north…
